St Patrick's Day
Back when I was a kid and we lived in Zambia, the nuns at the local convent/hospital used to bake a wonderful cake for me every St Patrick's Day.

One of the greatest disappointments of my life in coming back to England was discovering that I didn't automatically get a St Patrick's Day cake every year. In fact, I haven't had one since. I would like the world to take note.

That's horrible. Cake is a staple of life and to have a favorite that you can't get anymore...

So sad. I (hand to chest) feel you. I s'pose you've looked for this recipe?

Sadly, it was too long ago for me to remember what the cake was exactly. It did have apple in, though. Lovely, sweet slices of apple on top. Mmmm... :)

I want to read the story that starts with that first sentence, the one where the narrator (obviously, someone named Patrick) is reminded of that cake by something slightly more portentous than it just being St. Patrick's day again. This narrator is clearly a close relation of the narrator of "Uncle Vernon's Lie," but probably not the same boy.

It would be a very sad story, I fear, as anything lacking cake always is. :)

Doesn't work without nuns, I'm afraid. Wouldn't be a proper St Patrick's Day cake without attached nuns!

I admit to blinking when I read this b/c I was trying to figure out if it was a story or serious. Obviously, it is both. ;)

Life is a story without a plot. Or something.
